Lower Credit Card Debt

5 Tips For Reducing Credit Card Debt

Lower credit card debt simply by applying the five tips below. For some people, runaway credit card debt becomes the slippery slope to personal bankruptcy and financial ruin. If you have already started down that slope, you need to erase debt now while you still have a choice.

There's no use sugar coating it, it will take sacrifice and strong determination to eliminate credit card debt. But, if you start now, you can save yourself needless stress and worry. Decide to start paying down your debt today.

5 Tips To Lower Debt

1. Keep your credit cards at home in a safe place and choose one card to use for emergencies. Do not carry it with you. Pay for anything you purchase with cash, and if you cannot afford an item, then don't purchase it. Ask yourself, "Do I really need it?"

2. Call the credit card companies, explain your financial situation, and politely ask to have your interest rate reduced. Sometimes, a significant reduction can be arranged. It's always worth a try, and a reduced interest rate can shorten the payoff time and save you money in the long run.

3. Begin to pay down your debt load using the debt snowball method. There are variations to the snowball method, but here's an effective way of doing it:

Arrange all your credit cards in order of their interest rates, placing the card with the highest interest rate first, then the card with the next highest interest rate second, and so on. Each month, add an additional $20 or $40, or as much as you can afford, to the minimum payment due on the card with the highest rate, while making your minimum payments on the other cards as usual.

Once you've paid off the first card, the one with the highest interest rate, apply the extra money you were using to begin to pay off the second card, then the third card, and so on until all your cards are paid off.

4. Once your debt has been paid off, resist the urge to let it accumulate again. Limit yourself to one credit card, then use it only for emergencies. Force yourself to pay for daily purchases using cash, and if you can't afford it, don't spend the money.

5. If the above steps appear too difficult for your circumstances, don't be afraid to ask for professional help if you need it. A certified financial counselor can help you to create a workable plan to pay off debt in a reasonable time period.

Lower credit card debt and enjoy life without financial worries.
