How To Survive A Recession

Prepare Now For Uncertain Times Ahead

You need to know how to survive a recession. The world economy is not what it once was. Companies are downsizing. Jobs are being lost in every country. Investments and life savings are at risk.

The main thing is not to panic. Simply do the best you can to avoid needless spending, and you'll eventually see light at the end of the dark financial tunnel.

Meantime, here's some helpful, practical tips on ways to survive recession and difficult financial times.

5 Ways How To Survive A Recession Or Job Loss

1. Use credit cards only for emergencies and pay down any debts you have. This will free up money you're now paying in interest and monthly service charges. If your debts are paid off, put away enough money in a secure savings account to last for a minimum of 18 months.

2. Prepare a workable personal budget plan and stick to it. Avoid all unnecessary spending such as takeout foods, magazines, lottery tickets, and so on. Carpool to work with a friend. Limit dining out to once a month. Take your own lunch to work. Rent a DVD instead of going to the movies. You get the idea.

3. If you have things at home unused and gathering dust, consider selling them on eBay, or have a lawn sale. Take your new or slightly used clothing to a consignment shop wherein you can sell them for a commission. These are great ways to get fast easy cash.

4. Earn extra income. Ask your boss for overtime. Do you have a skill or hobby you could turn into income? For example, can you tune small engines or teach music or scrapbooking? If you have teens living at home, perhaps they could get part-time work after school or do odd jobs for neighbors to earn extra money to help the family. Knowing in a practical way how to survive a recession will stand them in good stead later in life.

5. Consider starting a business from home. Do you enjoy writing and spending time on the Internet? You could earn extra income with your own website. An online business costs very little to start and can eventually become quite profitable. It's not get-rich-quick, though. Realize that it takes time to create your website and get it recognized by the search engines, but within a few months or so, you could be earning good money.
