Erase Credit Card Debt

7 Tips To Erase Credit Card Debt And Improve Credit Score

It's not easy to erase credit card debt. It takes discipline and know-how. When used responsibly, credit cards are a great tool to make life easier. When misused, those same cards can make life miserable.

The seven tips that follow will give you the know-how to use your cards wisely and improve your credit score. Discipline yourself to use them and you can become debt free.

7 Tips To Erase Debt

1. Always regard your credit card as you would a personal loan from the bank. You need to repay the loan, so don't charge more than you can afford to pay back.

2. Watch your card balance closely. Always know what the current balance is. Set your monthly spending limit and when the balance exceeds that amount, stop using your card. Again, never spend more than you can afford.

3. Make it a habit to always keep your transaction receipts and balance them with your credit card statement every month. This will not only identify any charge errors, but it will enlighten you on your spending practices. It is hard to cut back on spending and stop credit card debt if you don't know where your money is going.

4. Always pay your monthly bills on time. Even if you can only afford to make the minimum payment, it is better than making a late payment. The credit card companies will not only impose an interest penalty on a late payment, but the late payment will be reported to the credit bureaus, and your credit score will suffer as well. So remember to pay on time.

5. If you are serious about settling credit card debt, leave your cards at home. Never take them shopping with you, especially if you plan to go somewhere where you know you will be tempted to buy something. Resist the urge to buy something.

6. If you must buy something, set a limit, and only take sufficient cash. Do anything you can to inhibit your spending on nonessentials and prevent impulse buying.

7. Finally, my best credit card debt advice is to use common sense when using your cards. Think before you charge. It is always much easier and less painful to avoid credit card debt than it is to erase credit card debt. It's a wonderful feeling to be debt free.
