Debt Collector Laws

Know The Debt Collector Laws And Protect Yourself From Harassing Debt Collectors

Debt collector laws have been passed to protect you from annoying debt collector harassment and threats.

You don't have to put up with your phone ringing at all hours and listening to a rude, intimidating voice when you answer. And a barrage of letters that threaten immediate legal action can jangle anyone's nerves.

Thankfully, there are guidelines and techniques available to help.

For instance, in most jurisdictions collectors cannot contact you during certain hours, usually before 8 am or after 9 pm, nor can they call you at your place of employment if they are made aware that your employer doesn't okay it. And in most places, they must honor your written request to stop further contact.

Bottom line: Debt collection agencies are not permitted to harass you or use unfair practices when trying to collect a debt. They must follow the debt collector rules.

For your own protection and peace of mind, know the rules. Study them. They are readily available for reading on the Internet.
