Car Buying Calculator
A Car Cost Calculator To Help You Choose The Best Car Deal
This car buying calculator can help you decide which of two cars would offer the better deal. It can even summarize the costs associated with the purchase of a single automobile, including the annual cost to own and operate the vehicle and the approximate cost per mile to drive it.
When buying a car, most people fail to consider ALL the expenses that will be generated by their purchase. And because nearly all car-buying scenarios come with different variables (depreciation rates, interest rates, purchase prices, insurance costs, mpg ratings, and so on), it becomes very difficult to compare one buying scenario with another.
However, the handy-dandy car buying calculator is here to help.
This new car/used car calculator will not only help you to forecast the REAL COST of buying and owning a car, but it will also help you to more accurately compare the real cost of one car buying scenario with the real cost of a second car buying scenario. By doing so, you'll be better equipped to make an informed choice.
Instructions:
To use the online car buying calculator, simply fill in all the blanks for the first car in the Scenario #1 column and then fill in all the blanks for the second car in the Scenario #2 column. Finally, click on "Compute Purchase & Ownership Costs" to view the results.
If you want to get a cost summary for the purchase of just one car, simply fill in all the blanks in the Scenario #1 column and then click on "Compute Purchase & Ownership Costs." Note that this will automatically copy Scenario #1 values into the Scenario #2 column, and the results for both columns will read the same.
Canadian Car BuyersCanadians will need to convert Canadian measures to their approximate US equivalents when using the car buying calculator. Here's how:
- Multiply the number of kilometres you expect to drive per year by 0.62137 to calculate the number of miles per year.
Example: 30,000 kilometres x 0.62137 = 18,641 miles
- Divide your local gasoline price per litre by 35.2 to get the price per ounce, then multiply that result by 128 to calculate the cost of one US gallon of gasoline in Canadian dollars.
Example: (CD$1.15 per Litre / 35.2) x 128 = CD$4.18 per US Gal
- Multiply the number of kilometres per litre by 2.35193 to calculate the number of miles per US gallon.
Example: (20 kpl x 2.35193 = 47 mpg)
