Budgeting Finances
Increase Income And Reduce Expenses By Budgeting Finances
Budgeting finances should be a no-brainer, but most people are not motivated to balance their checkbooks or lay out a personal budget either on a spreadsheet or a simple ledger.
Perhaps it's simply human nature, or maybe it's because of a negative experience in high school math class, but people are generally not fond of working with numbers.
However, it IS in everybody's best interest to learn how to make a simple budget, even if it means asking for help or purchasing an easy-to-read book on the topic. You need to outline your expenses to see where you stand financially.
You might think you already know where all your money goes and that you don't need to keep track of your spending, but I would like to issue you a little challenge: Keep track of all your expenses for just one month, no matter how small the expense. At the end of the month, I think you'll be amazed at how it's the little expenses that add up. And many of these little expenses are unnecessary.
By cutting those unneeded expenses, you can increase your income!
Little Items Make A Big DifferenceTotal how much you spent on just one of those unnecessary items for the month. It might be a morning latte, a twice-weekly video rental, or magazines from the corner newsstand. Now, multiply the total by twelve, and then multiply the result by five. That's how much you could save in just five years and that's just one item.
That's why we all need to do money budgeting. It's only by gaining control of the little expenses that really don't affect the overall quality of our lives that we can begin to experience true financial success.
The little items do make a BIG difference. For instance, if you could cut your coffee break and lunchtime spending by just $2.50 every working day, you could save $12.50 each work week, $50 a month, $600 a year, and $3,000 in five years, plus the interest.
Just think what you could do with an extra $3,000, and you still get to enjoy a nice lunch everyday. And that's just one place to save money while not doing without something you need. You are sure to discover other areas to cut expenses if you examine your list of monthly expenses.
There is nothing like a goal to motivate us to budget and save our money. What is it you'd like to do? Place a down payment on your dream house, begin an educational fund for your children, buy a sporty new car, vacation on one of Anguilla's beaches, pay off debts -- anything? Then set your goal and make it your reason to begin budgeting finances.
Don't put off making a budget any longer. Do it today.
